In the scope of the Wind Turbine Wake Experiment – Wieringermeer NORCOWE and ECN conducted an intensive measurement weekend with SUMO operations. The campaign started in October 2013 with the installation of a dense LiDAR network around one of ECN’s research turbines in their test wind park Wieringermeer.



The aim of the campaign is to study single wind turbine wakes under different weather conditions. During the last weekend, the focus was on closing the bridge between larger turbulent structures, measured by the LiDARs, and small-scale turbulence, measured with the five-hole-probe mounted on SUMO.




In a fair weather window we managed to fly a total of five racetracks up- and downstream of the research turbines. The turbulence data will be compared to turbulence measurements by the SONICs on the upstream met mast and to the LiDAR wake measurements.
